EU-approved pesticide found to have potential effects on brain development

health

Fluazinam, an EU-approved fungicide, is facing new scrutiny after researchers challenge its safety record. The pesticide was approved partly based on a two thousand five study concluding it posed no risk to fetal brain development. But when researchers re-examined that same study, they found significantly different results—potential neurotoxic effects in developing brains. Environmental campaigners are calling for the pesticide to be withdrawn from the market. According to the Guardian, the contradictory findings raise serious questions about the original research and European regulatory oversight of pesticides.
