Stephen Hough to lead relaunched Leeds piano competition
entertainment
The Leeds International Piano Competition is being relaunched with significant reforms aimed at celebrating artistic individuality. According to The Guardian, pianist Sir Stephen Hough is taking over as artistic director and chairing an international jury. Starting with the twenty twenty-seven competition, participants will have complete freedom to choose their repertoire—whether classical staples like Couperin or twentieth century works like Copland—and the upper age limit will increase to thirty-five. The triennial contest, which first began in nineteen sixty-three, is emphasizing imagination and personal artistic vision over rigid tradition.
