Going outside in this heat? Follow these guidelines to stay safe

health

According to NPR, as heat waves intensify this summer, staying safe outdoors requires preparation. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, not just when you're thirsty. Seek shade during peak heat hours, typically afternoon to early evening. Wear light-colored, loose clothing to allow sweat to evaporate. Watch for warning signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, or nausea. These symptoms demand immediate cooling and medical attention if they worsen. Check on elderly relatives and neighbors without reliable air conditioning; they're at higher risk.
