Nippon Steel takeover doesn’t mean safer, cleaner conditions, US workers and residents say

According to the Guardian World, two workers at US Steel's Clairton Coke Works near Pittsburgh were killed in an explosion last August. As Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel's takeover moves forward, families and residents in Pennsylvania's Mon Valley remain skeptical that promised investment will deliver safer working conditions or cleaner air. The workers' deaths underscore long-standing safety concerns in the region.
