County with 37 data centers tells schools to turn off lights to save electricity

According to Boing Boing, Henrico County, Virginia is asking its schools and government offices to cut power consumption as the local electrical grid struggles under the demand of thirty-seven data centers—with seventeen more proposed. County Manager John Vithoulkas warned employees in late June that electricity rates for county and school facilities are rising by twenty-five percent, adding an estimated five million dollars to the county's costs in the coming year.
