Olympian indicted for vandalizing Reflecting Pool

politics

According to Axios, former Olympic canoeist David Hearn was indicted Thursday for felony destruction of property. He allegedly reached into Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which recently underwent a fourteen-million-dollar renovation. Prosecutors say Hearn forcefully removed part of the pool's bottom liner, damaging approximately two square feet of sealant. The felony charge carries a potential ten-year prison sentence. Hearn's legal team denies the allegations, calling the indictment outrageous and suggesting it reflects the administration's effort to shift blame for renovation troubles. This is the first criminal indictment secured in connection with the reflecting pool vandalism since President Trump brought attention to the damage shortly after the renovation was completed. Authorities are investigating about half a dozen other alleged vandalism cases related to the pool.
