According to ScienceDaily, new computer models show that ancient asteroid impacts may have created vast underground hydrothermal systems by cracking Earth's crust and channeling hot water through rock. Rather than simply destroying the early planet, these collisions may have inadvertently forged the long-lasting environments where life could have emerged—potentially widespread across early Earth.
