New South Wales has recorded its first suspected case of bird flu. The H-five-N-one virus was found in a giant petrel discovered near Hawks Nest, north of Newcastle. If testing confirms it's the highly pathogenic strain, it would mark the first detection on Australia's east coast. According to The Guardian, CSIRO is conducting tests to determine the exact virus strain.
