Man holding Tibetan flag dies after setting himself on fire outside UN

A Tibetan rights advocate has died after setting himself on fire outside United Nations headquarters while holding a Tibetan flag. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. According to Al Jazeera English, the man was described as a tireless advocate for Tibet. The act of self-immolation has been used by Tibetan activists as a form of political protest against what they view as Chinese restrictions on Tibetan autonomy and religious freedom.
