Since becoming the first female leader of an Italian government in September twenty twenty-two, Meloni has risen from poverty in Rome to the country's highest office. But three and a half years into her tenure, the honeymoon period is over. A judicial reform referendum this past March marked a significant defeat, ending the myth of her political invincibility as her government's term winds down.
