The UK government defended allowing pubs to stay open until five in the morning for England's World Cup match—a decision it said was necessary after the team unexpectedly advanced on Wednesday.
Separately, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy announced yesterday she's quitting X, the social media platform, saying it 'favors abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate.' Her department will also stop posting there.
Downing Street, however, said the government will continue using X. A spokesman noted that individual departments decide their own social media strategies, but stressed the government's ongoing focus on ensuring the platform follows the law, improves its content moderation, and remains safe for women, girls, children, and the broader public. According to The Guardian.
