CDC investigates parasite that’s caused cases of ‘explosive’ diarrhea in 18 US states

The CDC is investigating a parasite outbreak linked to more than four hundred cases of cyclosporiasis across eighteen US states. The illness, caused by the cyclospora parasite, spreads through raw produce and water contaminated with feces. Symptoms include cramping, nausea, fatigue, and diarrhea. According to the CDC, health officials are actively tracking the outbreak to identify the source. Anyone experiencing severe gastrointestinal symptoms in affected regions should contact a healthcare provider.
