Brexit rule change means British teens in EU face soaring student fees for UK degrees

politics

According to the Guardian, British teenagers living in the EU face a sharp economic consequence of Brexit. Currently, they qualify for 'home fee' status at UK universities—the same subsidized rates as domestic students. But in 2028, when the post-Brexit grace period expires, that advantage ends. They'll be reclassified as international students, paying substantially higher fees while also losing access to UK student loans and financing. Students starting their A-levels this autumn will be the first cohort affected. For British families in Europe, seeking a degree from a UK university could become financially unaffordable.
