Birdsong data from Merlin ID app to help global biodiversity project

According to the Cornell Lab for Ornithology, the Merlin bird ID app will soon join one of the world's biggest citizen-science projects. In an upcoming update, the free app will automatically feed bird identifications into eBird—the global database that already holds more than two billion bird observation records. Merlin uses machine learning to instantly identify birdsong and provide visual details. By connecting real-time detections from millions of birdwatchers to eBird's network, conservationists aim to better track and protect at-risk bird populations.
