OpenAI’s apparent failure to visit key site raises questions over UK investment

According to The Guardian, OpenAI's promised UK datacentre project called Stargate UK appears unlikely to happen. The company had announced it as a major technology partnership between the US and Britain, with the British government promoting up to thirty billion pounds in funding. But a new investigation reveals that at least twenty billion of that was never more than hypothetical. The company paused the project in April over concerns about regulation and energy costs. And The Guardian has now learned that OpenAI hasn't even visited the key site, raising serious questions about whether the company was ever genuinely committed to building it.
