Californians are paying steep prices at the pump ahead of the July Fourth holiday. According to CalMatters, regular gasoline at some stations costs five dollars and eighty-nine cents per gallon, with premium reaching six dollars and thirty-nine cents. The publication found Chevron stations charging the highest average prices among major brands surveyed in late May. California has price-gouging regulatory tools available but hasn't deployed them.
