Universal and Illumination's 'Minions & Monsters' claimed the top spot at the box office for Independence Day weekend, according to Variety. The animated sequel earned sixteen million dollars on its opening Friday alone, playing in over forty-two hundred theaters. With a projected weekend total of thirty-nine point five million dollars domestically, the film is off to a strong start following its July first release.
