Trump's God, guns and anticommunist Fourth of July
politics
According to Axios, President Trump delivered a delayed Fourth of July speech from the National Mall on Saturday night, with weather forcing the event well past midnight.
The speech centered on three themes: American military strength and innovation, Christian values, and opposition to communism. Trump told the crowd: "We don't want communists in our country. Never worked, and it never will work." He emphasized that the nation's founding principles stem from "one almighty God."
The president also used the occasion to push for the SAVE America Act, his voter ID legislation. He promised "no mail-in ballots except for illness, disability, military deployment, or travel"—repeating unfounded claims about widespread election fraud.
Military veterans and the Artemis II astronaut crew took the stage as Trump highlighted American military achievement and space innovation. The event faced disruptions when storms forced attendees to evacuate and re-enter through security screening. Despite Washington's sweltering heat-wave temperatures, Trump had pledged to deliver "a really long speech."
