Alibaba bans Claude for staff – Anthropic didn't want them using it anyway

Alibaba has ordered its staff to stop using Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant. According to France 24, the ban follows the discovery that Claude flags users connecting from China—part of Anthropic's broader effort to restrict access to its technology in the country. Anthropric also alleges Alibaba has been running extensive model distillation campaigns against Claude, using approximately twenty-five thousand fake accounts to train Alibaba's own AI systems. It reflects the growing tension over artificial intelligence development and intellectual property in U-S-China tech competition.
