Cutting language courses puts social mobility at risk, say UK experts
other
According to the Guardian, universities in the UK are cutting language courses, raising concerns about social mobility and workforce skills. The University of Exeter announced last week that more than seventy language academics are at risk of redundancy, part of broader cuts of one hundred fifty posts. The University of Nottingham is considering becoming the first Russell Group university to offer no language degrees. Former education secretaries and experts warn that removing these courses risks undermining opportunities for working-class students. The cuts come as language exam entries continue to decline.
