According to The Guardian World, China has carried out a long-range missile test in the South Pacific, a move the Australian government has condemned as "destabilising to the region." State news agency Xinhua reported that a test missile topped with a dummy warhead landed in what it called "designated waters" of the Pacific. Beijing described the launch as a routine part of its annual military training and said it gave prior notification to relevant countries, including Australia. Other regional leaders also criticised the test.
