Iran begins long farewell to former supreme leader with calls for Trump’s death | First Thing

According to The Guardian World, Iran has begun a week of mass funeral processions for its former supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who was killed along with members of his family on February twenty-eighth, the opening day of the US and Israeli war against Iran. Millions have gathered in Tehran, and officials appeared in public in what the Guardian describes as a show of defiance. During the ceremonies, a poet named Mohammad Rasouli made an explicit public call for the killing of Donald Trump, framing it as retribution for Khamenei's death. Meanwhile, the newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, named ten days after his father's death, has not appeared in public or released any recorded message in three months. His absence drew notice as his three brothers stood together beside their father's coffin.
