Greece's Thessaloniki threatened by spreading wildfire

world

A fast-moving wildfire is threatening Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city. According to France 24, the blaze broke out on July fourth, igniting a ravine in a mountainous area north of the city and spreading quickly as strong winds hampered efforts to contain it. Residents of three small suburbs were forced to evacuate. The country's public broadcaster reports that a seventy-six-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting the fire, allegedly after sparks from his vehicle ignited the blaze.
