Extreme high temperatures double young people’s risk of mental health admissions, Australian research shows
health
According to The Guardian, new research suggests the climate crisis could take a growing toll on young people's mental health. A University of Sydney study found that extreme high temperatures during warmer months double the risk of young people being admitted to hospital for a mental health condition. The analysis drew on seven hundred twenty thousand hospital admissions in New South Wales among people aged up to twenty-four. The researchers project that heat-related admissions could rise by between six percent and seven point seven percent by the end of the century, deepening an already declining trend in young people's mental health.
