Moritz de Hadeln, one of the most influential figures in European film festival history, has died at the age of eighty-five. According to Variety, de Hadeln passed away on Saturday at a hospital in Nyon, Switzerland. Over his career he led three of the continent's premier festivals — the Locarno Film Festival, the Berlinale in Berlin, and the Venice Film Festival. Born in Exeter, England, in nineteen forty, he came from an artistic family with deep cultural roots.
