Caltech Appoints Julie Messersmith as Vice President for Institute Initiatives

Caltech has appointed Julie Messersmith as Vice President for Institute Initiatives, effective July first, according to Caltech News. Messersmith brings more than a decade of senior leadership from Johns Hopkins University, where she directed research initiatives, managed faculty recruitment programs, and coordinated university-wide strategy. In her new position, she'll oversee Caltech's strategic direction and major initiatives across the Institute, JPL, and the Board of Trustees, serving as senior advisor to President Ray Jayawardhana. Caltech's leadership praised her collaborative approach and ability to translate ambitious ideas into lasting impact—a skill the Institute sees as essential as it pursues its most ambitious priorities.
