Keir Starmer intervened to oppose Fifa’s plan to move England kick-off time

politics

According to The Guardian World, Prime Minister Keir Starmer intervened diplomatically to oppose FIFA's proposal to move England's World Cup kickoff against Mexico to an earlier time. The match was originally scheduled for one AM UK time, or six PM local time in Mexico City. The Football Association raised concerns that moving the start earlier would reduce England's acclimatization period for the high altitude in Mexico City, potentially handing the hosts an unfair advantage. Starmer instructed officials to argue against the schedule change through diplomatic channels.
