politics
According to The Guardian, cuts to prison education in England and Wales are fueling a rise in drug use, self-harm and violence behind bars. In his final annual report, Charlie Taylor, the outgoing HM inspector of prisons, described the reductions imposed by Labour ministers as brutal, noting that spending on frontline education has fallen by as much as fifty percent. Taylor, who steps down in the autumn after six years in the role, also warned authorities to keep a close eye on the planned release of thousands of prisoners later this year.
