Scotland could freeze datacentre projects in challenge to UK’s AI strategy

According to The Guardian, the Scottish government is weighing a sweeping moratorium on building new datacentres — a move that could undercut a central pillar of the UK's artificial intelligence strategy. The proposal comes from the Scottish National Party, whose national council passed a motion to freeze all new datacentre projects in Scotland. That motion has now been sent to the government to consider. If adopted, it would put Scotland's stance directly at odds with Westminster's push to expand the computing infrastructure that powers AI.
