Student loan promotion in England and Wales amounted to mis-selling, MPs say

politics

According to The Guardian, a committee of MPs says the government's promotion of student loans in England and Wales amounted to mis-selling. The Treasury select committee pointed to slideshows that compared loan repayments to the cost of a mobile phone contract, and to YouTube videos that never mentioned that loan terms could later change. The findings follow last year's decision by the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, to freeze the repayment threshold on plan two loans at twenty-nine thousand, three hundred and eighty-five pounds for three years, starting in April twenty twenty-seven. The committee also says ministers have a moral obligation to reverse that freeze.
