Two California salamander species are getting federal protection today. According to the Federal Register, the Fish and Wildlife Service is reopening the comment period on a proposed rule to list the Kern Canyon slender salamander as threatened and the relictual slender salamander as endangered. Both would have critical habitat designated. The reopened process allows public input on a new provision addressing conservation and economic impacts.
