Macron meets with al-Sharaa in Damascus after explosions heard

According to France 24, explosions were heard in Damascus on Tuesday as French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Syrian capital. Witnesses reported smoke rising near a high-end hotel where Macron had spent the night. He went on to meet with Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa. France 24 notes that Macron is the first major EU leader to visit Damascus since the fall of former president Bashar al-Assad.
