According to The Guardian, Maine's Democratic party leadership has called on US Senate candidate Graham Platner to immediately withdraw from the race, after a sexual assault allegation against the Marine veteran cost him support from his previously most vocal backers. In other developments the outlet reports, a federal judge emphatically rejected President Trump's latest attempt to delay paying a five point eight million dollar judgment for defaming a magazine columnist a jury found he had sexually abused. And in Memphis, National Guard soldiers on patrol fatally shot a man who authorities in the Tennessee city said turned and pulled a gun on the troops during a chase around four a.m. on Sunday. The Guard was deployed there in October by the state's Republican governor, Bill Lee, as part of a federal push to address perceived crime surges in Democratic-run cities.
