French court clears way for far-right leader Le Pen to run in 2027, with ankle bracelet
politics
According to France 24, a French appeal court on Tuesday upheld far-right leader Marine Le Pen's conviction for embezzling European Union funds, but shortened her ban on holding public office — in theory clearing a path for her to run in the twenty twenty-seven presidential election. The court handed down a three-year sentence: two years suspended and one to be served with an electronic ankle tag. Le Pen is due to give a prime-time interview on TF1 at eight p.m., where she may address her political future.
