Le Pen sentenced to 15-month ban from public office in EU embezzlement case

politics

According to France 24, a French appeals court has upheld Marine Le Pen's conviction for misusing European Union funds, but shortened her ban from running for elected office to fifteen months. In theory, that could re-open a path for the far-right leader to enter the twenty twenty-seven presidential race. There's a catch, though: Le Pen was also sentenced to wear an electronic tag for a year, and she has said herself she would not run under those conditions. France 24's Catherine Norris-Trent reported from the court.
