Multiple US states see alarming increase in cases of parasitic illness that causes ‘explosive’ diarrhea
health
According to The Guardian, health officials in Michigan are tracking an unusually large outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic illness that causes what they describe as explosive, watery diarrhea. Cases have climbed sharply in recent days — nearly seven hundred reported to the state health department by Monday, up from one hundred seventy just six days earlier. That's almost fourteen times Michigan's typical annual total of about fifty cases. Officials say the numbers have grown exponentially, with the parasite driving the abnormal surge.
