Trump signals openness to selling Turkey F-35 fighter jets
world
According to Axios, President Trump signaled Tuesday that he's leaning toward letting Turkey back into the F-35 fighter jet program and selling it the aircraft, a notable shift in U.S. policy. Speaking alongside Turkish President Erdoğan in Ankara, Trump called Turkey more loyal than other allies and said a sale was something he would definitely consider. Turkey was expelled from the program in twenty nineteen after buying Russia's S-400 air defense system, which U.S. officials warned could compromise the jet. Vice President Vance said the Pentagon is now reviewing how a sale could comply with American law. The move faces resistance: Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu urged Trump to hold back, fearing it would erode Israel's military edge, and eighteen lawmakers led by Representative Dina Titus asked congressional leaders to block any deal while Turkey still holds the Russian-made system, arguing it would violate U.S. law and sanctions.
