Appeal court upholds Le Pen conviction, opens door to 2027 bid

France's far-right leader Marine Le Pen has partly lost, but not entirely. According to RFI English, the Paris Court of Appeal has upheld her conviction for embezzling European Union funds, ruling that she misused the money. But the court also softened the lower court's penalty, trimming the ban that had barred her from running for public office. That reduction reopens a door many thought closed: the possibility that Le Pen could stand in France's twenty twenty-seven presidential election.
