Hamas withdrawal from Gaza governance a bid to unblock 'deadlocked' peace plan

According to France 24, Hamas says it will relinquish control of Gaza. In an announcement Monday, nearly twenty years after seizing power there, the group said it would hand governance to a committee of Palestinian technocrats. Middle East expert Jean-Paul Chagnollaud told France 24 the move is an attempt to break the deadlock over the second phase of a peace plan backed by US President Donald Trump, and to loosen Israel's grip on the territory.
