Court upholds Le Pen conviction but opens door for 2027 presidential bid

According to RFI English, the Paris Court of Appeal has upheld the embezzlement conviction against far-right leader Marine Le Pen for misusing European Union funds. But in the same ruling, issued earlier today, the court reduced the lower court's ban on her holding public office — opening the door for her to run in France's twenty twenty-seven presidential election. So the conviction stands, while the political door she thought had closed swings back open.
