Mail hails verdict in Prince Harry case and says it will seek to recover costs – as it happened

According to The Guardian, a High Court judge has dismissed the case brought by Prince Harry and six other prominent figures against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail. The claimants — who also included Elton John and his husband David Furnish, actors Liz Hurley and Sadie Frost, campaigner Doreen Lawrence, and former Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes — had accused the group of unlawful information gathering. In a 436-page judgment, Mr Justice Nicklin ruled that they failed to prove those allegations, finding that a legitimate lawful source could not be ruled out and that the specific evidence did not establish the information must have been obtained unlawfully. The Mail has welcomed the verdict and says it will seek to recover its costs.
