Viral AI fakes flood social media as Iran mourns Khamenei

According to France 24, the funeral procession for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, drew enormous crowds through Tehran, an event documented by international news agencies. But France 24 reports that alongside the genuine footage, a wave of AI-generated videos and photos has spread across social media, falsely claiming to depict the mourning. Some of the fabricated images inflate the size of the crowds, while others betray tell-tale AI errors and invented landmarks, apparently created to draw clicks and engagement.
