Scientists found a surprising cancer fighter hiding inside tumors
health
According to ScienceDaily, researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago have found an unexpected ally against cancer: the bacteria that naturally live inside tumors. Drawing on a bacterial protein, the team engineered a peptide they call aurB, which slips into cancer cells and shuts down their energy supply by attacking the mitochondria, the tiny power plants that keep the cells running. It's an early-stage finding, but it points to a novel strategy for starving tumors from the inside out.
