Schedules of Controlled Substances: Placement of Tianeptine in Schedule I

The Drug Enforcement Administration is proposing to place tianeptine on Schedule One of the Controlled Substances Act, according to today's Federal Register. If finalized, the designation would impose strict regulatory controls and criminal penalties on anyone manufacturing, distributing, or possessing the substance. Schedule One is reserved for drugs the DEA deems highly dangerous and without accepted medical use.
