Virgin Media hit with record £28m fine for stopping customers cancelling contracts
business
The Guardian reports that Virgin Media has been hit with a record twenty-eight million pound fine from Ofcom, the UK telecoms watchdog, for repeatedly preventing customers from cancelling their contracts. It's the largest consumer protection penalty Ofcom has ever issued. According to the regulator, Virgin Media likely mishandled millions of phone calls between the start of twenty twenty-two and autumn twenty twenty-four, using deliberate call-dropping tactics, unnecessary transfers, and putting customers on hold, in Ofcom's words, for no reason.
