Exclusive: Republicans juice spending to protect Senate "red wall"

politics

According to Axios, Republicans are pouring money into Senate races they once considered safe. One Nation, a conservative nonprofit aligned with Majority Leader John Thune, is reserving twenty-eight million dollars in TV ads in Ohio and eleven million dollars in Iowa — states Trump carried by double digits just two years ago. In Ohio, Senator Jon Husted faces a tougher-than-expected challenge from former Senator Sherrod Brown, who has outraised him by more than two to one. In Iowa, Republican Ashley Hinson contends with voters unhappy over Trump's tariffs and a struggling farm economy. Axios reports Thune's operation is planning more than four hundred million dollars in total spending. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take the chamber, but face their own trouble in Maine, where candidate Graham Platner is under pressure to withdraw amid misconduct accusations he denies.
