UK waters hit with extreme heatwave as global sea temperatures reach record levels
science
According to The Guardian, UK waters are in the grip of what the Met Office is calling an extreme marine heatwave, part of a global spike that has pushed ocean temperatures to record levels. Scientists warn the heat could trigger mass-mortality events for some marine species. Forecasters say the elevated sea temperatures built up rapidly in the wake of last month's heat dome, when much of Europe endured what researchers described as its worst-ever heatwave — one they say would have been impossible without the climate crisis.
