US Food and Drug Administration rejects petition to set Pfas limits in food

health

According to The Guardian, the US Food and Drug Administration has rejected a petition to set limits on PFAS—so-called "forever chemicals"—in food. This comes despite evidence from the Environmental Protection Agency and independent studies showing that food is the biggest source of PFAS exposure in people's diets. Testing has found that the levels of these chemicals in some contaminated foods are as high as drinking multiple glasses of contaminated water. The FDA's refusal marks another setback for public health advocates trying to reduce exposure to these persistent toxic compounds.
