Lammy refuses to support Lib Dem call for Farage’s resignation to be blocked until standards inquiry over – UK politics live

politics

According to The Guardian, deputy prime minister David Lammy has declined to back a Liberal Democrat demand that Nigel Farage be barred from resigning his seat until a standards inquiry concludes. The exchange came at Prime Minister's Questions, where Lammy faced the Conservatives' James Cleverly while Keir Starmer attended a Nato summit. The Guardian also reports that further Reform UK transactions worth millions of pounds have been referred to the National Crime Agency. And in a sign of how unusual the Clacton byelection has become, Radio 4's Today programme interviewed the serial joke candidate Count Binface, who, with other parties standing aside, may end up as Farage's main challenger on the ballot.
