First Thing: Trump calls Iran’s leaders ‘scum’ and declares fragile ceasefire over
world
According to The Guardian, hostilities between the United States and Iran have resumed, shattering a fragile truce that had held since April. Speaking at a NATO summit in Ankara, President Trump declared the memorandum of understanding with Tehran over, calling Iran's leaders vicious, violent people and, in his words, scum, though he suggested talks could still continue. The US military says it struck more than eighty targets around the Strait of Hormuz, in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels passing through the strait. Iran retaliated against US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait, with its Revolutionary Guard claiming eighty-five facilities were hit. NATO's secretary general, Mark Rutte, backed the American strikes. Oil prices rose three percent on the news.
